Attractions and Services
Built in 1993, this beautiful facility is a great place for events of all sizes. The gym area is suitable for large meetings and has a stage for performances at one end, a large kitchen located near the back of the building, and a separate meeting room for smaller gatherings also available. Community Club (below) caters to all functions.
Prairie Rose Bowl:
In the summer of 2011, the complete alley was entirely re-surfaced with four synthetic lanes and a brand new computerized scoring system installed.
Always open for parties and business/family celebrations for all ages, occasions and events, the Prairie Rose Bowl also offers an intimate area for snooker, shuffleboard, or a friendly game of cards. This area also works well for hosting meetings, and can be rented on an hourly basis. Please contact the bowling alley directly at 364-4224 or Charity Mills, Prairie Rose Bowl Manager, at 364-4715 for further information or to book your event.
C.M. Buckaway Library:
In 2005, the Parkland Regional Library, Jansen Branch, dedicated its building to a local poet/author, C.M. Buckaway, in her honour. It is open two nights a week and has two public computers with access to high-speed internet and a TV/VCR. An incredible array of books is available on loan – from easy to large print, audio and ebooks, periodicals, and newspapers through the new “Library To Go” Internet system, plus everything in between. If something cannot be found here, it can be ordered through the province-wide, inter-library loan service.
Kinsmen Camping Grounds:
This summer, the Jansen and District Kinsmen Club developed six full service campsites, complete with water, power and sewer. These sites are located south of the Community Centre, in a perfect location for those attending events in our community.
There are two snowmobile rallies in the area. One is held by the Jansen and District Kinsmen (with the help of the Kinettes), and the other by the Haliburton Community Club. These snowmobile rallies are annual events for snowmobilers and non-riders alike. Lots of prizes are to be won, with money raised going to Telemiracle and local community projects. The snowmobile rallies are held in February of each year.
R.M. of Prairie Rose Annual Rate Payers Supper Meeting:
Held in March, this supper meeting is a gathering of the ratepayers of the R.M. of Prairie Rose 309. Supper is catered by the Community Club, a guest speaker is present, and the evening wraps up with entertainment.
Accent Credit Union Jansen-Esk Branch:
Also held in March, this supper meeting is a gathering of the Credit Union membership. Supper is catered by the Community Club.
Bi-annually, local residents get together to put on a performance worthy of the Oscars. Guests gather for a delicious meal catered by the Community Club, and are always delighted by the featured show. Get your tickets early; this is always a sell-out!
Cabbage Roll / Perogie Supper:
This meal is held just before Easter of each year and is put on by the Jansen Zion Ladies group.
Canada Day Celebrations:
Held on July 1st of every year, our village boasts one of the finest fireworks in Saskatchewan on this day. The event consists of children’s rides and games, slow pitch, concession booths and a beverage garden, Canada Day birthday cake and ice cream, flag raising plus a tribute to our veterans, a wiener roast and, of course, the spectacular display of fireworks.
Held on the first Sunday of every November and put on by the Community Club, it is a time for the community to get together after harvest and have a terrific home-cooked meal, as well as a good visit with friends and neighbors.
